When I started Harbor Morning Co., I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
I knew I loved candles. I knew I loved the coast. I knew I wanted to build something of my own. Beyond that? I was figuring it out one step at a time.
What I didn't realize was how much goes into making a quality candle. The testing. The wick selection. The fragrance blending. The science behind waxes and burn performance. And don't even get me started on labels. A single label design can take hours of tweaking, printing, and re-printing before it finally looks right.
Even after the last few months of nonstop learning, I still feel like I know very little about Google, SEO, keywords, social media algorithms, or what makes someone stop scrolling long enough to buy a candle.
What I do know is this:
We operate with complete transparency.
We're not interested in hiding ingredients behind fancy marketing terms or vague descriptions. We want our customers to know exactly what they're bringing into their homes.
Our soy wax is 100% natural, sustainably sourced, non-GMO, vegan, and free from paraffin, animal products, lead, zinc, and unnecessary additives.
Our candle wicks are made from 100% cotton.
Our beeswax is premium cosmetic-grade beeswax that is triple-filtered and safe for personal care products.
Our tallow products are made with USDA-inspected beef tallow sourced from American farms. It's a single-ingredient product with no preservatives, no fillers, and no shortcuts. We chose it because we believe traditional ingredients still have a place in modern products.
Our fragrance oils come from CandleScience, one of the most trusted suppliers in the industry. Their fragrances undergo extensive safety review and are formulated to meet industry standards for candles, soaps, and many personal care products when used at approved usage rates.
What does all of that mean for you?
It means you're getting products made with ingredients we feel good about using in our own home.
It means you're getting candles designed to provide hours of enjoyment using quality materials from suppliers we trust.
It means that before a product reaches our website, it's been researched, tested, questioned, adjusted, and tested again.
One of the biggest reasons I started Harbor Morning was to reduce the amount of mystery surrounding the products my family used. I wanted to know what was in them. I wanted cleaner options. I wanted products inspired by the coast, the water, family memories, and the places that bring peace after a long day.
As a first responder, I've spent years around enough things I can't control. Harbor Morning gives me the opportunity to control one thing: the quality of the products we make.
We're still learning. We're still growing. We're still improving every day.
But we'll always be honest about what goes into our products, why we use it, and what we're doing to make the next candle even better than the last.
That's our promise.
