Locally Sourced Beeswax Candles Are Coming

From Local Hives to Your Home: Our Beeswax Candle Journey

Over the past several weeks, we’ve been exploring the idea of working with beeswax candles.

This is a completely new adventure for us, and we wanted to approach it the right way. Beeswax behaves differently from the waxes we normally use. It is firmer, melts at a higher temperature, and requires its own carefully chosen wick and testing process.

For us, creating a new candle is never as simple as pouring wax into a jar and adding a label. We’ve spent time researching wicks, studying how beeswax burns, and learning what it takes to create a candle we would feel confident using in our own home.

Then came the most exciting part: we found a local beekeeper just a few miles away who sells beeswax.

That means our new candle won’t simply be made with beeswax—it will be made with real, locally sourced beeswax from our own community. Every purchase will also allow us to reinvest in another small local business, which makes this project even more meaningful.

What Makes Beeswax Special?

It Supports Our Local Community

Sourcing our wax nearby keeps more of the story—and more of the investment—close to home. Instead of ordering an anonymous product from a distant supplier, we know where our wax comes from and can build a relationship with the person producing it.

Your candle will help support two local small businesses: the beekeeper who cares for the hives and Harbor Morning Co., where the wax is carefully turned into a finished candle.

It Can Offer a Slow, Steady Burn

Beeswax is naturally dense and firm. In one controlled candle study, the beeswax candles consumed wax more slowly than the soy and paraffin candles being tested.

That doesn’t mean every beeswax candle will automatically burn longer. Wick size, candle diameter, airflow, and proper candle care all affect burn time. It does, however, show why beeswax has the potential to provide a beautifully slow and steady candle experience when it is wicked correctly.

That is exactly why we have taken our wick research and burn testing so seriously.

It Has Its Own Natural Character

Beeswax is created by honeybees to build the comb inside their hives. Its natural color can range from light cream to warm gold depending on the wax and how it was collected and processed.

Locally sourced beeswax may also have slight differences in color and natural aroma from one batch to another. We don’t see those variations as imperfections. They are part of what makes genuine beeswax so special.

Each batch carries a little piece of where it came from.

It Creates a Beautiful Unscented Option

For our first beeswax candle, we want to let the wax itself be the feature.

An unscented beeswax candle offers a simple option for customers who prefer not to use added fragrance in every room but still enjoy the warmth, atmosphere, and gentle glow of a handmade candle.

“Unscented” means we will not add fragrance oil. Natural beeswax may still retain a very subtle aroma of its own, which can vary from batch to batch.

What We Won’t Promise

You may have seen claims that beeswax candles release negative ions or “clean” and purify the air. Current research has not proven that burning beeswax produces this effect.

We would rather be honest than repeat a popular marketing claim simply because it sounds good.

Beeswax is not magic, and every burning candle produces some combustion emissions. A correctly sized wick, a properly trimmed wick, and responsible burning habits are important with every type of candle.

What we can promise is genuine local beeswax, careful testing, honest information, and a candle made with the same care we expect from anything we bring into our own home.

What Happens Next?

We’re continuing our testing to find the right combination of beeswax, wick, and vessel. We’ll be watching the flame, melt pool, jar temperature, burn time, and overall performance before the candle is released.

We are excited—but we aren’t rushing it.

This candle will represent the work of a local beekeeper, the care that goes into every Harbor Morning product, and a community choosing to support small businesses close to home.

From their hives, to our hands, to your home.

Our locally sourced beeswax candle is coming soon, and we can’t wait to share its glow with you.

Coastal Life, Pure & Simple.
