At Harbor Morning Co., the ingredients matter.
Not because they sound nice on a label. Not because “clean” is a trend. They matter because I care deeply about what I make, what I put into each product, and what I send into someone’s home.
Every candle, wax melt, balm, soap, and coastal gift we create starts with research, testing, and intention. I have spent a lot of time learning about waxes, fragrance oils, body-care ingredients, product safety, scent performance, and how each ingredient affects the final experience.
This brand is handmade, but it is not thrown together.
It is built with care.
## Why I Care So Much About Ingredients
Harbor Morning Co. started from a love of coastal living, scent memory, and the feeling a good fragrance can bring into a space.
A candle can remind someone of a vacation.
A soap can make a guest bathroom feel more thoughtful.
A reed diffuser can make a business entrance feel more polished.
A balm can feel like something simple, useful, and comforting.
A gift box can turn into a memory.
That is why I take the ingredients seriously.
When someone brings Harbor Morning into their home, gives it as a gift, places it in a vacation rental, or uses it for their business, I want it to feel intentional. I want it to feel like something made by a real person who cared about every step.
Because that is exactly what it is.
## 100% Soy Wax for Our Classic Candles
Our classic candles and wax melts are made with 100% soy wax.
Soy wax is plant-based, paraffin-free, and chosen for its smooth finish, clean coastal feel, and beautiful scent throw. It gives our candles a soft, polished look and allows our fragrance blends to shine when properly poured, cured, and tested.
The soy wax we use is designed to hold fragrance well, with a maximum fragrance load of up to 10%. That matters because scent strength is not just about adding more fragrance. It is about finding the right balance between wax, fragrance, wick, vessel, cure time, and burn performance.
Every candle has to work as a full product.
That is why I test blends, adjust formulas, and pay attention to how the candle smells cold, how it burns, and how the fragrance fills a space.
## Pure Triple-Filtered Beeswax
In select Harbor Morning heritage products, we use 100% natural, cosmetic-grade, triple-filtered white beeswax.
Beeswax brings structure, firmness, and a timeless traditional feel to products like balms, salves, lotions, and heritage-style candles. It fits beautifully into our Trading Post-inspired line because it feels practical, simple, and old-school in the best way.
There is something about beeswax that feels classic.
It is not flashy.
It is not trendy.
It is useful, sturdy, and familiar.
That is exactly why it belongs in certain Harbor Morning products.
## Non-GMO, Gluten-Free 100% Tallow
Some of our heritage-style products use non-GMO, gluten-free, 100% tallow.
Tallow has a long history in traditional body-care and candle-style products. It gives our heritage collection a more rugged, practical personality — the kind of feel that belongs in a coastal cottage, a workshop, a tackle room, or a simple gift made with purpose.
For Harbor Morning, tallow fits the products that are meant to feel grounded, useful, and connected to a more traditional way of making things.
When paired with beeswax, it helps create products with body, texture, and character.
It is part of what gives our heritage line its old coastal trading-post feel.
## Raw African Shea Butter
For select body-care style products, we use raw African shea butter.
The shea butter we use is 100% pure and unrefined, with no additives or preservatives. It has the natural earthy, nutty scent that comes with genuine raw shea butter and is sourced from women’s cooperatives in West Africa.
Shea butter is rich, traditional, and deeply connected to simple skin-conditioning care. We use it in products where we want a more moisturizing, comforting, body-care feel.
It is the kind of ingredient that makes a product feel substantial.
Not watery.
Not overly processed.
Not fake.
Just rich, simple, and useful.
## Cold-Pressed Jojoba Oil
We also use SoulSation jojoba oil in select body-style products.
This jojoba oil is 100% pure, cold pressed, unrefined, Non-GMO Verified, EWG Verified, cruelty-free, vegan, and sustainably sourced. It contains no synthetic additives, perfumes, or artificial ingredients.
Jojoba oil is one of those ingredients I love because it feels lightweight but still meaningful in a formula. It helps create a smooth, nourishing, non-heavy feel in balms, body oils, body butters, lotions, salves, and other body-style products.
It gives products a softer glide and a more polished finish without making them feel overly greasy.
That matters because texture is part of the experience.
A product can have great ingredients, but if it feels heavy, sticky, or unpleasant to use, people will not reach for it again.
## Organic Arrowroot Powder
In select balm and body-style products, we use Jiva Organics Organic Certified food-grade arrowroot powder.
This arrowroot powder is sourced from Maranta arundinacea and is described by the supplier as gluten free, raw, vegan, non-GMO, organic, and batch tested gluten free.
For Harbor Morning products, arrowroot is not used as a food ingredient. We use it for texture.
Arrowroot helps improve the feel of balm-style products by softening the finish and helping reduce a heavy or greasy feel. It is a simple plant-based ingredient, but it makes a noticeable difference in how a product applies.
That is the kind of detail I care about.
The little things matter.
## Thoughtfully Selected CandleScience Fragrance Oils
Fragrance is the heart of Harbor Morning Co.
A scent can change the whole feeling of a room. It can bring back a memory instantly. It can remind someone of a place, a person, a vacation, a season, or a moment they did not even realize they missed.
That is why I do not choose fragrance oils randomly.
We use thoughtfully selected CandleScience fragrance oils and pay attention to their CleanScents® and CleanScents+® designations, product-use guidance, and fragrance safety transparency.
CandleScience fragrance oils are vegan, cruelty-free, formulated without phthalates, and formulated without ingredients found on California’s Proposition 65 list.
Their CleanScents+® designation means a fragrance is formulated without known or suspected carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, organ toxins, or acute toxins.
Their CleanScents® designation means a fragrance does not contain organ toxins or acute toxins, while also providing transparency when a fragrance contains an ingredient recently added to the RIFM list of suspected carcinogens, mutagens, or reproductive toxins.
This transparency helps me make better decisions.
Some fragrance oils are best for candles and wax melts. Some may be appropriate for soap or body-style products. Some are better kept in home fragrance only.
For Harbor Morning, the question is never just, “Does this smell good?”
The questions are:
Does it fit the product?
Does it fit the collection?
Does it make sense for how the customer will use it?
Does it support the feeling we are trying to create?
Does it match the quality I want Harbor Morning to stand for?
That is how each scent is built.

I want Harbor Morning products to feel clean, simple, and trustworthy.
But I also believe in being honest with customers.
That is why we do not claim every ingredient is “all natural” or “chemical-free.” Fragrance oils, for example, are not the same thing as essential oils or raw natural materials. Instead of using vague buzzwords, I would rather be transparent about what we use and why we use it.
Our approach is simple:

Research them.
Understand their purpose.

Test the finished product.
