Six Months In: The Wins, the Lessons and the Sleepless Nights

It’s hard to believe that about six months ago, we first took up the idea of selling our candles.

What began as a small idea has turned into a long, exciting journey filled with plenty of ups, downs, surprises and lessons. We’ve celebrated success stories, experienced failures, discovered problems in our processes and—more than once—completely ran out of sleep.

No, this isn’t a negative post. It’s an honest one.

We’ve worked hard, researched more subjects than we ever expected and grown in ways we couldn’t have imagined when we first started.

We Learned That Every Detail Matters

Making a candle someone truly loves requires much more than finding a fragrance that smells good.

The wax, wick, vessel, fragrance blend, pouring temperature, curing time and even the way a candle is burned can affect its performance. Changing one small detail can sometimes change everything.

We’ve researched, tested and retested. We’ve changed wicks, adjusted formulas, improved our production methods and gone back to the drawing board when something didn’t work the way we expected.

Some ideas worked beautifully the first time. Others taught us exactly what not to do.

Both were valuable.

Failure Became Part of the Process

As a small business, it can be difficult when something doesn’t turn out as planned. Every unsuccessful test represents time, materials and money—but it also provides information we didn’t have before.

A candle that doesn’t burn correctly teaches us something about the wick. A fragrance blend that doesn’t perform teaches us something about balance. A process that takes too long encourages us to find a better way.

We’ve learned that failure isn’t the end of an idea. Sometimes it is simply the next step toward getting it right.

Our Little Idea Kept Growing

What began with a small collection of coastal candles has grown into so much more.

Along the way, we’ve expanded into wax melts, goat milk soaps, room and linen sprays, body care, beard care, gift boxes and our Trading Post Heritage collection. We’ve explored different waxes, developed new fragrance blends and recently began our next adventure with locally sourced beeswax.

Every new product has brought another round of research, testing and learning. It hasn’t always been easy, but watching Harbor Morning Co. grow has made every late night worthwhile.

You Have Been the Best Part

The most meaningful part of this journey has been the people we’ve met along the way.

Every purchase, review, kind message, shared photograph, repeat order and conversation at a local market has encouraged us to keep moving forward.

When you support a small family business, your purchase is never just another number on a report. It helps purchase the next batch of wax. It helps print the next set of labels. It gives us the opportunity to test another idea, create another fragrance and continue building something we genuinely love.

Most importantly, it reminds us that the products we make are finding their way into real homes and becoming part of someone else’s story.

We love our customers, and we truly love sharing our fragrances with you.

Six Months Down—and We’re Just Getting Started

We’re still learning. We’re still testing. We’re still improving—and we probably still aren’t getting enough sleep.

But we are incredibly proud of how far Harbor Morning Co. has come in six months.

Thank you for believing in our small business. Thank you for your patience while we learn, your encouragement when things become difficult and your continued support as we grow.

We can’t wait to show you what comes next.

From our family to yours, thank you for being part of the Harbor Morning journey.

Coastal Life, Pure & Simple.
