When Your Small Business Starts Taking Over the House
When Harbor Morning Co. first began, everything fit neatly into a single room. There was a small workspace, a few shelves, and just enough supplies to create each candle by hand.
Those days are long gone.
Today, our little coastal candle company has slowly expanded beyond the home office. Boxes have found their way into the living room. Candle jars seem to appear in every corner of the house. Shipping supplies have claimed their own territory. The kitchen has become an occasional packing station, and somehow there always seems to be one more stack of labels waiting to be printed.
Our kids have officially declared that no more rooms are allowed to be “borrowed” for Harbor Morning Co., and my wonderful wife reminds me—quite often—that the house is still meant to be lived in, not just used as a warehouse.
She’s probably right.
Running a small business isn’t always glamorous. There are late nights, early mornings, stacks of paperwork, countless trips to the post office, and more shipping boxes than we ever imagined we’d own. There are days when energy drinks seem to become their own food group, and there are moments when we wonder where we’ll fit the next shipment of supplies.
But every overflowing shelf tells a story.
Every shipping box represents someone who chose to support a small family business. Every candle waiting to be packed is headed to someone’s home, where we hope it becomes part of a memory—a relaxing evening, a thoughtful gift, or simply a quiet moment after a long day.
As much as we joke about losing another room in the house, we know exactly why it’s happening.
It’s because of you.
Every order, every review, every share on social media, and every encouraging message has helped Harbor Morning Co. grow far beyond what we imagined when we poured our very first candle.
We’re still a family business. We still hand-pour every candle. We still carefully package every order ourselves. The only real difference is that we seem to need a little more space than we used to.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
We can’t wait to see where it takes us next—hopefully somewhere with a few more shelves.
Thank you for supporting Harbor Morning Co.
Your support allows us to continue creating handcrafted coastal candles inspired by memories, relaxation, and the places that make us feel at home. Whether you’ve purchased one candle or simply shared one of our posts, you’ve helped this small family business grow in ways we never expected.
From our family to yours, thank you for being part of our story. 🌊
